The Culinary Arts program at Madison is not a home economics class—it is a rigorous, career-focused program designed to mold students into professional culinarians and aspiring entrepreneurs. Students gain hands-on experience in knife skills, advanced cooking techniques, menu planning, plate pricing, nutrition, sanitation, and more. Professionalism, creativity, and teamwork are central to the program, preparing students to excel in the culinary industry and beyond.

This 2-year program serves Junior and Senior high school students who are serious about developing their skills and pursuing careers in the culinary field. Instruction is divided between classroom learning and lab kitchen practice. In the classroom, students explore the Food Service and Lodging industries, including food safety, cuisine preparation, management, and nutrition. In the lab, students apply this knowledge through hands-on cooking experiences that mirror professional kitchens.

Students also gain real-world, entrepreneurial experience through program-run services. They participate in brunch service for the school community, monthly plated meals serving 120 community members, and bi-weekly lunches for Madison staff. The culinary lab features a fully functioning coffee bar, giving students the opportunity to operate a real business, from customer service to beverage preparation and daily operations. These experiences teach students not only the art and science of cooking but also the skills needed to run a successful food business, providing a practical foundation for future culinary careers.
